Here's something I meant to do ages ago.
One evening while enjoying a beer or two with the enigmatic Leopold Bratislav, we got into a heated discussion about Canadian cultures, Canadian symbols, Canadian icons. I said railways. He said roads. I said Peter Gzowski. He got a great idea. It goes something like this:
"We should rename the Trans-Canada Highway and name it after Peter. The Peter Gzowski Canadian Way unites all Canadians physically as Peter did emotionally and metaphorically. From West Coast and East Coast, through the Prairies and the Atlantic provinces, uniting Quebec and Ontario, creating a unique blend of many distinct cultures. The Peter Gzowski Canadian Way. I'm all verklempt now."
And he was.
So here's the thing...grassroots style. I think it's time for us to embrace our culture, our leaders and icons. Write your MP. Write the CBC. Hell, write to me if you want, and get this nation proud coast to coast. Say it with me, say it loud: The Peter Gzowski Canadian Way. Has a nice sound, eh? As Canadian as possible under the circumstances.
Thanks and good luck.
