Well, I tried it. Took the plunge. Jumped in with both feet. Went in with all guns firing. Sent it up the
flagpole to see who'd salute it.
And I failed.
I went to eBay and for the first time in my life, I made a bid. It was for an out-of-print book by Spider Robinson. On Saturday morning, I held the high bid, even threw in a couple
of extra bucks because I was going to be out of town during the last 12
hours of the auction eating the big turkey dinner and so forth. I came back home, turned on my computer and found this e-mail waiting for me:
Dear Pigdump,
Heads up! Another eBay user has outbid you on the following item!
Melancholy Elephants - Spider Robinson
The current bid amount is: $10.50
The auction closes : 10/09/99 13:34:46 PDT
Of course, your existing bid may be reinstated if this competitor's bid falls through. You can keep an eye on things if there's still plenty time before the auction closes.
AS IF!
Will I be able to get back on that horse? Am I gunshy? Will I retreat into that sad pathetic world called loser-ville?
Have I joined rejection central? Will I ever be loved again? Can I trust myself? Do I wither and die?
Well, I must go on... if only for you Pigdump visitors. I mean, if I don't believe in an e-commerce world,
then who am I to run this website? How can I claim to be a player on the information super highway
if I'm afraid to make another bid?
So on behalf of the Pigdump community, I am going to make a bid for a vintage box of White King soap!
I will not be foiled again!
