Different strokes for different blokes...

Living in dangerous times

Facts of Life, Disney style.

Things have changed. Our collective mind set is charting new territory. The papers are full of it... yes, we all know the papers are full of it... what I mean is, every day there's a new story about how the events of that date (you know the one) have changed our habits and our hopes, dreams, desires.

For instance, apparently people are eating mashed potatoes. And stew. Lots of stew. And sales in candy, chocolate and other tasty treats are up. (Funny, sounds like my normal daily diet.) They say it's comfort food time for the citizens of the world.

And they also say people's entertainment tastes have changed. Out with the reality shows (we've seen a little too much real stuff lately) and in with sitcoms and slapstick. Dark movies where you have to think - Novocaine, Life as a House, Mulholland Drive - are being passed over for Harry Potter, Amélie and Monsters Inc.

The editors at Pigdump aren't immune from this trend swing. In fact, we're all a little worried about our mental state these days. You be the judge:

  • During the "coming soon" clips before the 3:00 matinée of Monsters Inc., I saw a trailer of the re-release of ET the Extraterrestrial. When ET's finger lit up and he told Elliot "I'll be right here," I sobbed like a schoolgirl. It was a preview, for gosh sakes! I've seen the movie about 10 times already. Why the heck am I crying??
  • During the "coming soon" clips before the 12:00 matinée of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, I saw a trailer for the new Star Wars movie. I sobbed like a drunk at a wedding when I saw Yoda and the foreshadowing of coming doom... and I HATED the last Star Wars movie! Why the hell should I get all sentimental over it?
  • Then the kicker, the final event that makes me think it's time to think about that medication again. I spent 2 hours of my Sunday night watching... The Facts of Life Reunion! And I didn't just flip past it a couple of times, I watched the whole damn thing! I didn't even watch it much in the 80's, but for some reason, it was what I wanted to see. The Simpsons and Malcolm in the Middle be damned! I want to know what Tootie has been up to!

So it's quite clear that Pigdump isn't really its old self yet. And we want to thank you all for your patience. We have sucked as late, we know, quite obviously delusional. Lucky for us the old Content Portal Support Team has stepped in and helped when we were too busy watching Shirley Temple movies instead of producing the TQC
TM. Make no mistake... we will be back. Just wait until we're done with the Harlequin Romances and Nancy Drew Mysteries. Pigdump will overcome!

Thanks and good luck.
