Are you like me? Are you glued to your television set all day watching the Olympic Games? You get up in the morning and it's the chick hosting. You watch some events and then the wise acre in the bad sweater comes on for a bit of frivolity. Then finally, it's the man. Brian Williams... the voice of Canadian sports journalism!
You know, I always thought I could be a sports journalist, but I'm a chick and I often wear bad sweaters. But I think I can do it, with a mentor like Brian Williams. He has shown me the fine art of being a cutting-edge investigative reporter as he interviews - nay GRILLS - all the athletes and officials who take the hot seat in his wood-panelled studio. Here are some snippets:
[With bronze medalist Cindy Klassen]
Williams: Cindy, talk to me about the presence of Catriona LeMay Doan in Olympic village.
[With Wayne Gretzky]
Williams: Wayne, talk to me about being a player 4 years ago losing in Nagano and being a GM today.
[With Honourable Minister Sheila Copps]
Williams: Ms. Copps, talk to me about the government's commitment to amateur sport.
[With Elvis Stojko]
Williams: Elvis, you look so relaxed, talk to me about coming to the Olympics as the underdog, with no pressure.
[With David Pelletier and Jamie Sale]
Williams: Jamie, talk to me about that collision in the warm ups. And David, talk to me about what you were thinking when you saw that collision.
Oh Brian, you give us so much. How could I ever be like you? I'll have to talk to you about that some day.
