You are a child of the universe. No less than the trees and the stars, you have a right to be here. And whether or not it it clear to you, no doubt, the universe is unfolding as it should.

What did people do in the pre-mug years?

You know how you have friends who aren't really close friends but you have to do something for them at Christmas and birthdays... so you go to the local Hallmark Cards shop and get them a Gary Larson cup, or a mug decorated in the finest pastels that says "You're Sweet 16!"

Well my high school years in the 70's had no mug culture... rather, when we had a level 2 or 3 friend, we gave them deep, meaningful, inspirational words of love and friendship printed on fake parchment. That showed just how deep and meaningful they were to you (and it didn't really cost too much.)

Now remember, this was well before Saturday Night Live's Jack Handy gave us "Deep thoughts." This was real! We meant it!

So here are some of my favourites:

If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it's yours; if it doesn't, it never was.

Worrying doesn't rob tomorrow of its sorrows, it saps today of its strengths.

A problem kept inside is doubled. A problem shared is halved.

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence...
