Okay, so I'm being a little sombre, a little sentimental, maybe even a little maudlin. But I did go to Soho Square this summer to see the empty bench dedicated to Kirsty MacColl. She died way too soon. Some family and fans are meeting there this weekend as it would have been her birthday. As her song says, "Kiss me quick in case I die before my birthday."
Sheesh! I am being maudlin. But her music inspires me every day. It's funny, it's folky, it's Cuban, it's clever, it's passionate, it's sad, it's 60s-inspired girl group fun. She had the voice of an angel...sometimes a choir of angels! Just listen.
Her father Ewan was a folk legend. She inspired Billy Bragg, The Pogues, Evan Dando and Tracey Ullman. And she wrote one of my favourite songs. I know it's illegal and everything, but here's Soho Square for you to enjoy.
Okay. That's all.
