Once in a while, Pigdump's enigmatic associate, Leopold Bratislav, sends us his thoughts on a going concern, on popular culture, on politics, on McDonald's, on whatever his little heart fancies, really. And it's all Top Quality.

This week, he jumps into the witch controversy and gives our friend Wicca some words to think about:

Upon my own examination of the cartoon, I have an enchanted bone to pick with wicca the hut.

1. Arguably the painter has greener skin than most of the flying hags (that we can see). Determining however that our sample size is relatively small compared to the flock of whomevers we see darkening the sky, the point is moot anyway. Clamato anyone?


2. Humour is funny. Like a cigar is just a cigar (except to some USA Presidents but we'll leave that one alone - not because of any sensitivity, but because it's OLD NEWS and boring). So, get a supernatural life baby.


3. The humour is not based on any literal spelling (though it's quite handy that the first 3 letters are the same in Wicca and Wicker, though not in Witch - sue me). This humour is based on the phonetic similarities that allow all races, creeds, religions, languages to share humour through sound recognition, not literal spelling.


4. Get a life. Do Gastro-enterologists get upset when somebody refers to FARTS in a cartoon or skit? Do newspaper delivery persons get all up their skirt when we malign their supposed station in life? Hell, Dilbert deliberately raises the social stature of garbage retrieval persons by illustrating, with humour that this 1 example has a great intellect.

It makes us people! Oh, I forgot, you're a wiccan. Be glad the name of your group doesn't rhyme with the name of the 7th planet of our solar system. Then you'd have trouble!
